Orly – Fowl Play

Hello again!
Today I’ve got a beauty of a swatch for you.
This is Orly – Fowl Play.

SAM_6567

I love my little mini bottle!

SAM_6560

Fowl Play is the most gorgeous berry purple I’ve seen in a while.
Makes me think of wine and jelly filled pastries.
& the flecks! Blue, red, orange, silver, and even a hint of green! Like little shards of magical glass.
SAM_6556

Formula was great & even though this was the mini bottle it still had a great brush.

So what do you think? Let me know!
& I’m sorry that I’ve been posting less frequently recently. To be honest I just kept putting
off doing my editing and now I have a back log of about 5 manis. So you can expect at least one
over the weekend. Anyways! Happy Friday. Until next time.

Much love, D.

Sleeping Palace Sparkle Explosion

Hey friends (and random strangers)!
So I’m sorry I’ve been a bad blogger. I think I just needed a little mental break. But I’m back!
& today I’ve got another A England inspired post to share.

SAM_5117

I wore these to the Show & Shine which is a vintage car show that lets people showcase their fabulous cars while I walk around and try not to drool too much. Seriously people, there’s nothing like amazing cars with holographic paint jobs.
Since I knew that this would be a pretty festive experience, I wanted to ensure that my digits were looking snazzy.

SAM_5118

I used Sleeping Palace as my base colour. Then I did strips of Rose Bower, Briarwood, and Briar Rose.
Then (because well.. I can’t say no to sparkles) I added Top Shop – Razzmatazz at the base of my nail.
SAM_5114

I was really happy with these – especially with how holographic they were in the sun!
Nothing beats a holo mani while your hanging out with some of your favourite people.

SAM_5105

Next up: a mani resulting from the Show & Shine. It’s a good one, I swear.

Much Love, D

Ola Rio

You know those stand out stars that every polish dreams of being? Ola Rio by Enchanted Polish is definitely one of em. I’ve had this polish for a while now and I finally got around to trying it out. All I can say is that it was so worth the wait. Take a look and see what you think. (please forgive my messy clean up job. This was my third attempt at a manicure so I was just DONE by the end of it.)

SAM_5071

SAM_5072

SAM_5075

Because it’s one of my most precious polishes I didn’t want to have to use too much of it at one time, so I opted to apply a base of Essie – Licorice first. I love love love how this combination looked & Ola Rio is just amazing. Every place I went to I had to check what colour my nails were. Pink! Gold! Red! Copper! Completely drool worthy. And you just know it’s a winner when even the boyfriend notices without a prompt from me.

Next up I have a few manis using 4 of A England’s new polishes, which of course I’m dying to share with you. Have a happy Thursday!

Mother’s Day Mani 2013

Hey friends!
So yesterday was Mother’s Day and of course I have some themed nails to show you.
But I actually wanted to do something a little different for this post.
Instead of making it all about me I’m making it (mostly) about my mama.

Normally I paint my mom’s nails whenever she asks me to, but it’s usually kept to just a couple coats of whichever one of my polishes she’s been eyeing (aka no nail art). This year I decided that part of my gift to her was to not only paint her nails but to make it a little more special. I asked her to choose colours – she asked for purple and yellow. Then she specifically asked for flowers before I could even mention options. So I obliged but I kicked it up a couple notches just to give it that extra your-daughter-is-obviously-awesome-and-loves-you-very-much glow.

So here they are (& many thanks to my lovely model):

SAM_4762

SAM_4764

SAM_4755

I used Sally Hansen Insta Dri – Raspberry Race (why don’t we pronounce the “p” in that?) as my base. For the yellow/orange flowers I used Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear – Mellow Yellow & Wet n’ Wild Wild Shine – Sunny Side Up. For the pink flowers I used Sally Hansen Insta Dri – Fuchsia Flare & OPI – Kiss Me On My Tulips. At the center of each flower I dabbed Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure – Golden Rule. (Can you tell I love Sally Hansen polishes?)

SAM_4766

So what do you think? Let me know below.

Of course the most important person in all this is my mama.
Thankfully she was really happy with them. While I painted we drank tea and watched 1952’s The Snows of Kilimanjaro staring Gregory Peck, Susan Hayward, & Ava Gardner.
I love watching old movies with my mum. I get swept up in the music and the dramatic acting.
I wish people still swooned in movies.
(I also wish I was always surrounded by soft lighting and that my lipstick was always impeccable. A girl can dream.)

Well that’s all for now everyone! Next up will likely be my attempt at a tutorial as I have to do one for the 7 Deadly Sins Challenge. We’ll see how that one goes…

7 Deadly Sins Challenge: Day 6

Happy Friday!
I have yet another Deadly Sins Post for you all. I’m very surprised that I’ve been able to keep up with all these.
I for sure thought I’d get lost in the manicure madness.
In any case, we’re onto the second day of Greed & the prompt was:
“Remember, More is More... Don't hold yourself back!”
So I went for it: I did a gradient, I stamped, and I used glitter. And here’s the result:

SAM_4750

SAM_4743

I used Sally Hansen Insta-Dri in Jade Jump and Mint Sprint (at least I think it’s Mint Sprint. I lost the little sticker with the name & after searching the internet everything that came up Mint Sprint matches my bottle) for the gradient.

SAM_4748

SAM_4741

I stamped using A England – Saint George & plate BM 301. Then I used a brush and applied Top Shop – Razzmatazz in between some of the lines.

SAM_4747

What do you think friends? Let me know in the comments section.
Remember to check out the other ladies manicures too!
Next up: Mother’s day mani. See you soon!

Holographic Divergence

Hey all!

Hope everyone's week is going well.
I'm assuming most of you are counting down to Easter weekend just like I am.
I'll be getting fat all weekend but that's okay.
Easter is like Christmas for my family. Except there's no presents.
When you get down to it the presents aren't really what Christmas is about (or so they say).
But I did cheat a little though...I got myself a present.
I ordered 3 of the new Color Club Holographic polishes last week
and they arrived a few days ago so I had to try them out.

I had seen In Jeeb We Trust do a divergence manicure (this one) that
was inspired by another blogger's post (seen here).
I decided to run with this awesome technique and use my new polishes.

I used all three of my new holos.
From left to right Miss Bliss, Eternal Beauty, & Cosmic Fate.
All it took was some tape and a little patience.
But not too much patience!
These polishes have an awesome super fast drying time.

I'm so glad I ended up trying this technique because
the results are totally worth the minimal effort I had to put in.

It was really hard to capture just how holographic these polishes
are but trust me, these are AMAZEBALLS in the sun.
I think my favourite of the 3 polishes is Cosmic fate (bottle below).
I've never seen a colour quite like this and I was so
happy it looked better than it did in the bottle.

But who am I kidding, I love all of them!
So perfect for the warmer weather we've been having lately.
I'll have to be careful when I go on my bike ride that I don't get distracted by the awesome glimmer.

That's all for now friends!
Next post is likely to be up Sunday afternoon.
Until next time.

OPI - Get Your Number

Hey everyone!
Hope you're enjoying your weekend.
I started my weekend with a flashy blue mani.

For this mani I used OPI - Get Your Number
from the Mariah Carey liquid sand collection,
& then I used Zoya - Natty on my ring finger and thumb.
(Love the tiny little bottles that came in my 4 pack of the liquid sands)

The stars are actually nail tattoos from Big Ruby Tattoos.
I was interested to see how they would apply and it was really simple,
just like when I was little and used Spice Girl's tattoos.

right hand..
Get Your Number is totally beautiful.
It reminds me of shattered glass and sparkly fresh snow.
The holographic glitter is spot on.
I was pleasantly surprised by how much I liked this.
I thought it would be the dud out of the 4.

left hand

I really like how this one turned out.
It goes a bit nautical for me, with the
stars reminding me of a compass you'd find on an old ship.

& Natty! I've been lusting over this colour for a
while and then I accidentally found it when I was out shopping.
It really is the most gorgeous deep navy.
Coverage was amazing - only needed one coat to be opaque!

That's all for now.
Let me know what you think below!

Gie Gie With Some Zuzz

Hello friends!

Today's post went a little girly...
I wanted to use one of my polishes from the Zoya Lovely collection
& I ended up choosing Gei Gei.
(chances you said that with a French accent are pretty good I'm guessing.)

I paired Gei Gei with some glitter that gradients from pink to purple to black.

Gei Gei is a frosty pink, not something I typically enjoy
but I sort of fell in love with the swatches so I gave it a go.
& must say Gie Gie is pretty darn gorgeous.
Especially in the sun.

Let me know what you think below!
Until next time,

Sparkly Valentine

Hello everyone!

Hope you had a good week and a great Valentine's Day.
If you didn't celebrate well then I hope you had an awesome Thursday!

As mentioned before, this mani was the one I would wear for
my anniversary so I definitely wanted to make it a little more glitzy.
Boyfriend made me dinner last night since I had a midterm
at the end of the day so I didn't want to go out.
Tonight though we're going out to make up for it
& I've decided to post the outfit I wore in my next post.

Anyways! Back to the nails...
To set the mood once again,a little bit of MJ:

I used Maybelline Color Show - Bold Gold
piCture pOlish - O'Hara
& then I used gold glitter to do the design.

O'Hara is super gorgeous. It definitely differs from
piCture pOlish's other fabulous red Dorothy.
This one is a lot brighter, more of a bright cherry red.
And the glitter is a bit more subtle.

Right hand.....
Left hand (the gold on my index finger looks waayyy better in reality.) ....
Bottle Comparison.

These were a lot of fun to do and I would definitely recommend
you try using glitter if you have the patience for it.
I can't wait to see how far I can push myself by using them.
Sound off in the comments and let me know what you think!
Next post will be on Monday!

Dorothy by piCture pOlish

Hey!

Hope everyone is doing well and enjoying their weekends!
I had to go get my flu shot today and let me start off by saying that I am not a fan of needles. I'm usually sitting in the chair waiting for my turn and having a mini anxiety attack. I remember one time I had gone to our family doctor and we were waiting in the lobby for a while and I literally almost ran out because I was so anxious. This time I went in a little calmer, no real waiting around and luckily the lady was well trained. HOWEVER, my entire right arm (psstt I'm left handed) has been sooooo sore and tender the entire day. Tender to the point of almost being numb.
But I promised myself I'd blog tonight, so I took some advil, drank some tea, and
focused on using only my left hand.

In any case, here's something I did about a week ago.
This is Dorothy by piCture pOlish.
This is basically a part of my soul shrunk down and placed in a bottle.
The amount of shimmer and glam these nails give is amazing.
The bottle definitely has more golden flecks then when it's on the nails.
On me it had way more pink shimmer. But that didn't bother me.
It literally looked like Dorothy's red shoes.
And it has a really cool texture, I'm thinking Zoya's new collection will have
the same feel - slightly sandy but not rough at all.

Let me know what you think!

December Nails 2012 Theme 11: Inspired by Fireworks

Hey everyone!

So here it is, the last one!
I can't believe I made it through with only one theme accidentally forgotten.
I feel like this past month was definitely a hardcore introduction to blogging for me.
But I'm so glad I set out the goal and achieved it.
This theme was a lot of fun.
I wanted something flashy and festive because I knew I wanted
to end the year with a banging manicure.
I started off with a base of China Glaze - Midtown Magic
I love this polish, it looks so beautiful just on it's own.
Then I topped it off with stripes of both
Color Club - Cloud Nine and Top Shop - Razzmatazz
fanning out from my cuticles.
I was super duper happy with the results so I hope you like it.
Please feel free to comment and follow my blog!

oh! and if you're looking for more nail blogs please check out In Jeeb We Trust.
One of my dearest friends just started her own personal nail blog
so give her some love and check her out.
She's also been featured on my blog before so you know she has good nail taste!
