Dorothy Does Canada Day

Happy Fourth of July American friends!
Hope you're having beautiful weather where ever you are so you can go out and celebrate.
And you know, if it's not so nice, just stay inside and watch Independence Day.
Over-rated? Perhaps. But I love it. Just try this:
take a shot (drink responsibly kids) every time someone does something patriotic or every time
you see an American flag. Even if you can't spot anything at first just wait until the President's speech.
You might need to be double fisting at that point.
Oh, and take one for me when the alien has his monologue. That's my favourite part.

Now onto the mani!
In the spirit of patriotism let me show you what I wore for Canada day a few days ago.

Christmas in March

Hey friends.
I've got another combo post to share today.

If you follow me on Instagram you'll know that I did a green galaxy for St. Patrick's day.
(This green galaxy is quite photo heavy - I couldn't help but take it out into the sun)

What you don't know is that I also did a red galaxy a few months ago.
(Yes I said months, and no it's not as picture heavy. There was no brilliant spring sunlight in January.)
So check em out and let me know what you think!

-----------------------------------

Green Galaxies

A England - Saint George // Zoya - Logan // Sally Hansen - Scarab
Smitten Polish - Blue Footed Booby Dance// Zoya - Solange // Northern Lights Holographic Topcoat

I wore this look for St. Patrick's day and I couldn't stop staring at my digits.

And you just know it turned out well when your boyfriend compliments
your manicure without being prompted. More than once even. High five to that.

I've also decided to not add big white stars anymore.
I much prefer combining glitter and Zoya Pixie Dusts.
They seem to work better on my tiny canvases.

-----------------------------------

Red Galaxies

A England - Rose Bower // A England - Sleeping Palace // Essie - Angora Cardi
Zoya - Miranda // Ciate - Candy Cane

This look was inspired by a page from this book Logan gave my dad for Christmas.
You can expect to see some more looks inspired by this book at some point.

-----------------------------------

I think galaxies might just be my favourite nail art technique.
No two galaxy manicures are ever the same and each one provides endless room for magic.
What do you think?

Thanks for stopping by.
See you in a few!

xo, D.

Birthdays, Babies, & Belated Holidays

Hey everyone!
So it's been an extremely long time since I last posted.
It was nothing you did - I just wasn't feeling creative at all and as a result I had a really hard time writing my thoughts.
I have a not-so-secret love for the written word and I just hate producing mediocre work.
Perhaps it was the Winter Autumn blues?
In any case, here's some of the highlights of what's been happening in my life...

There was my god-daughter's birthday....

Novel Nail Polish - Rainbow Drops (Buy it here)

I polished off a Mildred Pierce HBO series with Gee from InJeebWeTrust ....

Enchanted Polish - Across the Universe // Sally Hansen Insta Dri - Jade Jump
MoYou - Suki Plate 05 (buy it here)

The HBO series was amazeballs by the way. Click here to see the trailer

Halloween happened...

OPI - My Vampire is Buff // China Glaze - Cast a Spell // Zoya - Thandie

Remembrance Day passed...

Aphrodite Lacquers - Rum Runner
(The etsy store is currently closed but you can follow them here on facebook for updates )

There was a baby shower....

Sation - Love at First Lavendar // A England - Saint George
MoYou - Suki Plate 06 (Buy it here)

& it was Gee's birthday...

Esmaltes da Kelly - Wolfsbane (Buy it here) // Essie - Blanc // Sally Hansen - Pink Blink
MoYou - Suki Plate 06 (Buy it here)

----------

Phew. So that's been my life as of late.
Which look is your favourite?
Next up I'll have a fun galaxy to share.
Until next time!

Much love, D.

100th Post: Vacation Mani’s

SAM_6231 -add
Hey friends!
Today marks one of my first blogger milestones:
100 posts.
I have to admit I’m really quite shocked. I didn’t even realize I was this
close until this past week. Thankfully everything worked out nicely and I have
a perfect 100th post to share: my vacation manis! It’s a bit long but hey, it’s
only fitting given the occasion. So let’s get started!

---------------------------------------------------------------

Look 1 – I am Enchanted

SAM_6297

For the journey I decided to use I Am The Walrus by Enchanted Polish.
It’s one of those polishes that needs nothing. It just sparkles and makes your life
a little less bleak.  I loved the coppery shimmer and the golden flecks. It also had this
flash of green or pink sometimes. I honestly can’t say enough about this polish.

Just look at that holo. Sparkle fantastic.
Application was flawless. Bit sheer on the first coat but it built up nicely.

Look 2 – Electric Fishies
SAM_6108

Yes that’s right, another EP. This beauty is Electric Feel by Enchanted Polish.
Most of the time this would go light green or silver and it was sooo beautiful in the sunlight.
Then I paired it with these decals from Nail Polish Canada.

& the sun shots….

Look 3 – Lychee Deco Accent

SAM_6141

During one of our evenings we decided to watch Gone With The Wind.
I love that movie. All the drama and the intense acting makes me swoon.
So it only felt fitting to use my O’Hara by piCture pOlish.
Then… I had a nail art melt down when what I wanted to do wasn’t working out.
Thankfully Gee was kind enough to do some accent fingers for me using stripping tape & Lychee by Barry M.
I think it turned out really perfect. Except for the I forgot-my-nails-were-painted smudge. Oh well.

SAM_6128

I love the tiny little pink flecks in O’Hara. So subtle (unlike Scarlet) but so so perfect.

Look 4 – Fruity Stripes
SAM_6157

For the last few days of our trip I wanted to use some more of my Barry M’s.
First I did a base of Strawberry by The Nail Junkie.
Then I added Dragonfruit & Papaya by Barry M.

SAM_6149

SAM_6150

Don’t mind the indent on my thumb nail. This time I thought they were dry already. Apparently not.
I didn’t really care though because the overall effect was still great.

---------------------------------------------------------------

So that’s it! Do you have a favourite look out of the 4? Let me know!
Thank you to everyone who’s stuck around long enough to see me hit 100.
I’m excited to see where else my blog will go.

Enjoy your Wednesday!

Much love, D.

Matte Miranda & Her Studded Panda

So I know I said I’d post yesterday but things happened. Mainly it was the fact that
I mysteriously twisted my ankle (i.e I woke up and it hurt like a..) so I was just kind of
grumpy all day. I didn’t want to give any of that negative energy to you guys so I didn’t post.

But! Today I have a mani I was totally in love with.

SAM_5974

SAM_5972

Isn’t that just the cutest little panda???? I bought this pack of decals from the Born Pretty Store.
I was instantly in love with the panda holding the little apple and I knew it had to be paired with red.

SAM_5978

The studs are from Heart 2 Art and I bought this pack at Walmart for less than 3 dollars.
They’re actually shinier than they appear in photos but they’re slightly dull because I covered them with my OPI Matte Top Coat.

SAM_5976

And finally the main beauty – Miranda by Zoya.
I love how vibrant this colour is and, of course, I love the sparkle.

SAM_5977

But I wanted to try something different. So I used 3 thin coats of Miranda and then I covered her up
with my OPI Matte Top Coat. I loved!!! how this looked. Made me want to try mattifying all of my Pixie’s.

SAM_6019

So what do you think? Let me know in the comments!

Also – remember how I said something amazing was happening this weekend?
Well, I’m going on vacation! I won’t tell you when or for how long because I’ve been
told that you don’t put those things on the internet. Cause, you know, people are crazy.
There will be no posts in my absence but I will be painting while I’m away so there will be a
set of posts that will come after my vaca showing you what manis I wore.
I may also do a outfit of the day post but we’ll see how much pep I have.

Have a happy Friday friends!

Much love, D.
